The Dalmuir Park Illuminations

Dalmuir Park Housing Associations contribution to the Illuminations ...the 'Vital Park'... A CEL project.

The 2/3 scale puffer was made by the staff of the Association for the 2005 Illuminations. The little ship was designed as a daytime and nighttime exhibit and was a replica of the famous Vital Spark.

Made from plywood the design was a 'cardboard cut out' version of arguably the Clydes most famous puffer.

Its construction was a source of great joy to the children of the area who seemed to be delighted by its presence.

When lit its bright reflections in the surrounding water added grandeur to the occasion. It was well photographed by visitors before being dismantled for use at next years illuminations.

The idea of resurrecting the Illuminations was the brainchild of Councilor Denis Agnew. The illuminations were first displayed in the park at the end of the second world war as a celebration of peace and continued well into the seventies.

The occasion was well attended by around 2000 people on both evenings and was enjoyed by all. Many favorable comments were made about the celebrations return to Dalmuir Park.
